Environment
Environment is a major component of education. Being on-time and good attendance is directly related to student performance. Student-teacher relations are also influential in performance and can help overturn the negative effects of socio-economic disadvantage and demographics. Taking care of teachers is influential as well because there was an association found between the morale of teachers and teachers' negative behaviors. Over-riding the socio-economic disadvantaged schools will require a more positive management of behavior as well. There has been a founded correlation between a school with a predominately socio-economic disadvantaged student-body and a more negative disciplinary climate.

Classroom Management Plan
Seating arrangements conducive to type of learning:
SMALL GROUPS: Promotes student interaction best for small group work and peer assisted activities. Use for inquiry activities and when resources (learning materials) are limited.
DIRECT INSTRUCTION: Best for lectures, focal point should be source of information.
WHOLE GROUP OR SEMINAR: Promotes listening skills and participation in whole group discussions.

Policy: Besides school policy, what additional policies are in place within our classroom? We can create as a class so that students can address policies that will affect their learning. Policy also consults how disruptions will be handled, passes, late or missing assignments, tardy policy, technology use policy and communication policies such as when parents and/or guardians will be contacted.

GRADING:
I will utilize the system of tracking grades as dictated by the school system in which I am employed. However, there are other systems that make grading less time consuming and more beneficial to the student and teacher. Online programs such as ENGRADE allows access to those invited to the classroom/student record. Parents and/or guardians as well as students can access their progress within the class at anytime. This system also computes based on your set criteria and weight for each entered grade/score. A non-internet based grading system I am familiar with is excel. There are formulas conducive to grading based on your set criteria and makes for less operator error. You can also generate reports to assess an individual or a class with this program.
The POWERTEACHER GRADEBOOK program is a great program that seems to have been created by teachers because of the details teachers would be concerned about are present. This program communicates the right information to the right people; grades and G.P.A. to students, contact information for teachers, alerts from administrative. The details of managing a classroom that are consuming both in time and paper are attendance, lunch forms, progress reports, student schedules and many other things that this program encompasses for compact, multipurpose use.
ZIPGRADE is a quick grading tool similar to scantron but with use of technology. This is not always the ideal way to grade, however, when assessing for the lowest level of knowledge (based on Bloom’s taxonomy of understanding) – memorize; this tool is a great asset.
ASSESSMENT TOOLS:
RUBISTAR (Rubistar.4teachers.org) has multiple appealing features. Some of my favored are: you do not have to create an account, the program offers suggested language based on the subject and rubric grading point and the formatting is present.
ONLINE SURVEYS or PROMETHEAN POLLING DEVICES are an asset to the reflective teacher. Online surveys are free to use, I have incorporated use of this technology on the Cross Country Page of this website. I will use the results to assess my effectiveness as a teacher or coach as well as utilize as a mechanism for motivating students to participate.
COMMUNICATION TOOLS:
I will attempt to use the wiggio site for conferencing with parents and students, polling students in real time and creating a shared task list. This tool is FREE and simplifies many things we need by allowing me to model and control the activity before releasing control to students. I like the idea of using a podcast as a supplemental tool in the classroom. As a substitute, I see how the lessons left for me to do can be enhanced by the teacher in their absence. A teacher can make a podcast in advanced in case there is an unforeseen absence to guide students. Podcasts can also be done as a rehearsal of the teacher for every lesson and be made available through the next school year - so your plans are created.
YOUTUBE CHANNEL can be a restricted use of the site youtube to delivery instructional or educational videos. By creating an account (and working closely with your administrators) you can restrict a student to access previewed and selected videos to compliment education or to reinstruct. I plan to create a portfolio of self-made videos for students to access in their absence for instruction.
CORKBOARD is another internet-based application that allows for invitees to write a comment on a mock corkboard. There are advantages and disadvantages to this program, as it cannot be traced to the person if an inappropriate comment was posted. This program must be tracked or supervised closely.
